MISSION STATEMENT:
The staff officer at every level is the most critical component of the Auxiliary chain of leadership. Through their tireless efforts, dedication, devotion to duty and experience these leaders engage with, motivate and support our members while driving the focus on our core missions and values.
Supporting our current leaders and developing the leaders of tomorrow is the primary focus of the Staff Officers College.
Our mission is to train, educate, update and prepare our current and future leaders for the ever changing focus and mission of the Coast Guard Auxiliary through conversation, shared experience, in-depth discussion and ongoing support through continuous training opportunities and fellowship
All current staff officers and all those looking to seek a position in one of our exciting mission areas is welcome to participate in this interactive and informative series of classes.
REGISTRATION & CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

The Staff Officer College is being offered this year with an in-person and virtual option

The in-person option is limited to 150 members (to support a safe socially distant environment)

To attend in person, you must have a 7101 form on file
-
Hand sanitizer will be available, and all in-person attendees will be required to wear a mask at all times

Participants will need to attend all 5 sessions to receive their certification of completion

Registration opens on SEPTEMBER 7, 2021, and will close on SEPTEMBER 22, 2021

SESSION SOC001 - THE AUXILIARY STAFF OFFICER - THE FORCE MULTIPLIER
Understanding the Role and Responsibilities of the Auxiliary Division/Flotilla Staff Officer; Understanding How and Where the Appointed Officer fits within the Auxiliary Chain of Leadership. Will include a brief overview of each Staff Officer Position which comprises a Flotilla/Division 7007 with a focus on critical elements for success, its value to the Auxiliary and the CG, attributes of the incumbent and the consequences of poor performance

SESSION SOC002 - FUNDAMENTALS OF PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
Understanding the Management of Functions and Functional Staff; Differentiating Elected Officer and Appointed Officer Responsibilities; Establishing Program Standards, Setting Goals and Using Appropriate Metrics

SESSION SOC003 - PEOPLE MANAGEMENT ESSENTIALS
Recruiting and Selecting the Right Candidates; Understanding and Managing Volunteers as Program Specialists and Force Multipliers; Managing Diversity & Generational Differences; Using Emotional Intelligence; Identifying and Understanding the use of Educational Tools designed to Develop Members aspiring to be FSOs; develop FSOs to be candidates for SO positions; and developing appointed officers to take on greater responsibilities and leadership roles in the Auxiliary.
